Back to Kinnekulle once again!

27.07.2025

Back once again to the blog post and this time, we're rolling out a blog about the recent race weekend at Kinnekulle Ring for round 5 of the Nordic Aquila Formula 1000 Championship! The track is a fast, twisty, and a very on-the-limit circuit which led to many exciting overtakes in this race weekend. For now, lets begin with a classic Practice-to-Race 3 report, Driver of the Weekend, and more importantly, a special mention to one of my favorite driver on the grid.

Practice

Practice was quite chill. I did spin out a couple of times but those were the learning steps I needed which helped me to keep my stability and speed through T1 at the races later. I have no further comments.

Qualification

Quali was interesting to say the least. Out on my first flying lap and a driver went off the track and that led to a driver slowing down ahead of me, and when I tried to overtake them, by the time we got to the braking zone, I was shoved off the track leading me to skid out to the grass and over the sand which luckily I managed to go through without being stuck. Unfortunately I didn't get slipstream after rejoining the track and it didn't get better after the red flag (which a driver crashed into the barriers unfortunately) and I got stuck into P14. However, race 1 would soon prove to many that I have resilience.

Race 1

IT WAS PURE CHAOS. While I did get a good start up to P12 there was actually 3 different accidents which led me up to P8 and later P7. The first accident was caused a driver spinning out and then another driver crashed into the spun driver, causing him a DNF and the spun out driver got minimal damage, and not even half a lap later, another accident which sent both drivers into the grass and sand out of T1. AND THEN THERE WAS A SAFETY CAR WHICH NOT EVEN 2 LAPS AFTER, THERE WAS ANOTHER ACCIDENT WHICH MADE ONE OF THE DRIVERS INVOLVED STUCK. it was utter chaos. P7

Race 2

Race 2 was even worse. While the first half was chill and nothing much happened, the driver who crashed onto the spun driver, Deven Grabko, got taken out and got stuck on the sand out of Mohlins Knapp. This resulted in the safety car coming out and later, m̴̱̯̞͊͋̚͜y̵͇̮̓̈́ ̸̦̊̽d̵͙̼̔͛ę̷̛̳͂̔ͅm̷͙̏̂i̵̼͕͉̒̚s̶̗̪̏e̶̗͂.

Not even 1 lap after the safety car ended (By the way, it was the final lap), I tried to overtake Fredrik Lindholm which didn't work out because, I still have tyres with the average temperature of a winter Thailand which made me spin out and somehow, I made a domino effect by making 3 drivers go off track and causing one driver to retire. I ended up P14 but because another driver got a penalty, P13 was the end result.

Race 3

This race was no better. Lap 1, after the start lights went out, I tried to make it 3-wide under the bridge and because none of us had space, me and Fredrik Lindholm collided and I shredded his side pod or well, side panel? Anyways, He managed to pull away and get like P8 while I was stuck into P9. Let me explain. The accident sent me off onto the grass, and after a lucky recovery onto the circuit, I managed to overtake many drivers and maintain my position until the end. But, a driver who jumped the start way before the start lights went out got a penalty and even better, there was a safety car till the end of the race which promoted me from P10 to a P9, which was really lucky. However, I do have to mention a funny moment. T1 (Guys, we are not calling the under the bridge a turn, its like Imola, ITS A STRAIGHT KINK), when Isakson was diving into my inside, by the time I closed the door, his fender was next to my rear right wheel which sent his fender flying and I was shocked to see his front left wheel NAKED. In my pow it was a racing incident cause I didn't mean to send his fender off, we both were fighting hard.

Conclusions

Unfortunately, we were off target for a projected P5 which was extremely disappointing, but with everything and every chaos that has happened during this race, I am grateful to keep my resilience and stay on the top 10. Not everything will go our way, but during round 6 at Ring Djursland, I will try my damned hardest to keep my position up and to get my first top 5 before the end of this year. That is my only goal, and I will continue to push hard for the damned top 5.

Driver of the Weekend

Overall DOTD: Andreas Skatteboe! He won all 3 races, except the qualifying but even so, for a driver who stays in front a-lot, he defended really well. You see, this track is extremely slipstream focused. If you have a slipstream, it is a near guarantee that you will get an overtake. Not having a slipstream will compromise your race but Andreas managed to defend really well despite all odds. Amazing work Skatteboe, and hopefully, we will see you holding the championship trophy soon!

Junior DOTD: WILLIAM ERIKSSON! First junior podium at race one and consistent top 10 work! This track is extremely difficult and Eriksson really made good work out of what he can do, managing to get his first trophy and junior podium! This track is beyond difficult, but it is fun in the end! This guy is extremely good and no doubt he will start making consistent top 5s soon! Lets see more performance Eriksson!
Rookie DOTD: SIXTEN SANDGREN! A guest driver for this race, and he was really fighting hard. Despite the lack of driving experience in the Aquila Formula 1000 car, he managed to fight with skilled drivers like Enzo Cohlin and William Isakkson, which takes real effort and skill to do, especially against hard defenders like William Isakkson! And now I'm hoping to see Sixten with a full season soon!

Special Thanks

Unfortunately, this race was also a last race to a really special driver. This driver was actually one of my favorite drivers to compete against, and his name is Christian Loven. This race weekend was his final race weekend for this year and actually in his career for the time being. Loven was an extremely good racing driver with some terrible luck. No doubt he was skilled. He was also the driver who took care of me in the 2024 Gellerasloppet when I had to go there alone. He is a great friend and eventually, he felt like a brother in the end of this weekend, he was a real big part of my view on Aquila Formula 1000 because he created amazing racing. I hope that Loven will have a great temporary retirement from racing and that he will come back soon, because I would really love to race against him one more time.

Thank you, Christian Loven, for your hospitality, your personality, and your competition, and have a great retirement.
